Capt cook called Tonga 'Friendly Islands' due to the hospitality they gave him and his crew during their voyages to Tonga. What Cook didnt know is that these feasts and celebrations were to lure Cook and his crew and basically soften them up for the Tongans to kill them. This mass slaughter fell thru because the Chiefs couldn't agree on a plan. Too many Chiefs as some say. Tonga couldn't do it so Hawaiians ended up twisting capt cooks cap back blue and sent him to his ancestors.
Nowadays, Tongans carry this label 'Friendly Islands' with pride.
